This week marks a significant milestone for Tangerine Search—our 5th anniversary!

What started as a small idea has grown into something truly remarkable. Over the past five years, we've navigated a global pandemic and dramatic changes in the hiring landscape, supported many leading-edge startups, embraced opportunities within large organizations looking to expand their diverse talent pool.

We couldn’t have reached this point without the hard work, dedication, and passion of everyone involved. To our team, thank you for your commitment and creativity. To our clients and partners, thank you for believing in us and being part of our journey.

As we celebrate this anniversary, we’re excited about the future and all the possibilities it holds. Here’s to many more years of innovation, collaboration, and success together! 🥂🍊

Some insights from the last five years:

🍊 Since we were founded in 2019, we’ve been through a pandemic, drastically changing the job market and the nature of work. Some jobs were seen as “essential” and highlighted their value to us daily, while others were fully remote. Hiring changed quickly, and the remote interview process has brought efficiency to the recruitment process that still benefits teams—even now with many back in office.

🍊 In 2021-2022, hiring hit all-time highs, swinging in favor of candidates—with lots of competition by companies to get top talent. During this time, tools that automated multi-stage outreach were introduced to the market, and existing tools were enhanced as this was needed to stand out from the many messages that candidates were receiving each day.

🍊 With the rising interest rates in 2023 and waves of layoffs, new challenges for teams emerged. Recruitment/Talent Acquisition teams were slashed in even greater numbers than other professions. Many businesses cut new innovations and areas of expansion, focusing on stability with their core products. Professionals at all levels joined the pool of job seekers, and experienced hiring from the other side—complete with the frustrations caused by the inefficiencies of greatly reduced recruiting teams. It was also a year where there were many times the number of candidates per open job, with much greater competition. We worked with candidates who had not been on the job market for a decade or longer, and experienced just how much has changed.

Highly accessible AI started to get put to use in 2023 also, which caused a new flurry of uncertainty with companies looking to understand how they could use this technology to both improve products and decrease their hiring needs. For job seekers, it helped provide new tools for people to employ when applying for multiple roles and trying to customize their resume per role.

🍊Starting in the Spring of 2024, the job market started to pick up in the areas we recruit for: Tech, Leadership, Operations. Through all we have witnessed in these past few years, some things continue to be true:

  1. Candidate experience is of utmost importance. Making a job change is a life event, and the smoother you make the experience, the more successful that hire will be.
  2. A company’s talent acquisition team is a vital part of their public image.
  3. Creating clearly defined and uniform interview plans helps teams have a successful, efficient hiring process and helps reduce unconscious bias.
  4. Having diverse teams makes companies more successful.
