Welcome to The Juice!
May is Mental Health Month, and today we're writing to you with some tips and resources to stay sharp, balanced, and well during your job search.
Looking for a new role—whether by choice or necessity—can be mentally and emotionally tiring (downright exhausting sometimes!). It’s a time of possibility, but also uncertainty. That’s why it’s essential to care for your mental health with the same dedication you apply to your job hunt.
Mental Wellness Tips for Job Seekers
Here are a few evidence-based strategies to maintain your mental and emotional health as you pursue your next opportunity:
- Create a structured daily routine—Treat your job search like a job. Set regular work hours, take scheduled breaks, and log off at a reasonable hour. Structure helps reduce anxiety and allows you to feel your accomplishments of the day.
- Take micro-breaks to reset your focus—Pause between applications to stretch, take a walk, or do a brief mindfulness exercise. Short breaks can boost productivity and help reduce burnout.
- Watch your self-talk—Job rejections can feel personal. When doubt creeps in, practice compassionate self-talk: “This wasn’t a match, but the right role is still out there.” Keep an email file of positive feedback to remind yourself of your strengths.
- Stay socially connected—Isolation during a job search is common. Schedule regular check-ins with peers, mentors, or job-seeking groups. Shared experiences can provide emotional relief—plus networking opportunities.
- Set realistic goals—Rather than aiming to submit 20 applications a day, focus on quality. Set a daily goal of 2–5 well-tailored submissions and build in time for skill-building or professional development.
